This is why we do this job. Family. In 2010, the day before Jessica was to be 12 weeks pregnant with our daughter Nora (and the day we were going to tell the world about it), Julian was laid off from his mortgage paying, life supporting, office job. Life was thrown into turmoil and we spent the next couple of years scrambling about, looking for work in a country with no free healthcare and no social security net (the US), moving 3,000 miles to follow work, and then moving from the states, back to the UK - our 'American Dream' having somewhat failed.
We moved to Brighton, and while Jessica founded Jessica Milberg Photography, Julian took another desk job in London's trendy Shoreditch to cover the bills. He would leave the house a 7am, and return from work at 8pm, seeing Nora awake only on the weekend. He was again laid off three months later (last in, first out). It was an awakening: spend life and our "financial security" at the whim of an employer, or take the control of the reigns.
We chose to both focus on the photography business - our shared creative love interest - still under the name Jessica Milberg Photography. In 2019 we changed the name of that business to Ferris & Sloane Photography, a name that represented the two of us.
